Are you feeling lonely and you are looking for a companion? Then Himalayan kittens may be for you. Be aware though, they require significantly more maintenance that other cats. In this hub we will cover general information, the characteristics of the Himalayan breed and tips on taking care of your Himalayan kittens. I also blended in a few “Did You Know?” lines in the article! You will find these on the right side of the hub as you go down.

Little Background Information On Himalayans

Himalayan cats are a long-tail breed. They were “developed” by crossing Siamese cats with Persian cats in the 1930’s. They have flat faces just like Persian cats, they have a furry skin and their paws are large. Himalayan cats look a lot like Persians in exception of their blue eyes and point coloration.

The Cat Fanciers Association recognized the Himalayan as a breed in 1957, but in the 1980s, changed the Himalayan's designation to a variety of Persian. The International Cat Association also considers the Himalayan a variety of Siamese. Only the American Cat Fanciers Association recognizes the Himalayan as a separate breed.

Did You Know? When you get Himalayan Kittens, you will get more visiting friends and family.

Characteristics Of The Himalayan Breed

Himalayan kittens are one of the cutest things you will ever see. Of course Himalayan kittens will grow up but guess what, they will still remain cute! Himalayan cats are very calm, easygoing, laid back and loving.

Most of the Himalayan cats really enjoy being in your presence, they will follow you to just about any room just to be with you. They are real house cats so that’s perfect if you are feeling lonely. To give your Himalayan kittens the attention that they deserve it’s best to not leave them alone too much. So if you are rarely at home because of work or other reasons than this might not be for you.

Did You Know? When Himalayan kittens are full grown they will have a round body with short legs, which makes it hard for them to jump.

Did You Know? Grown Himalayan kittens need to be brushed daily otherwise they may get tangles and need to be clipped.

Tips On Taking Care Of Your Himalayan Kittens

To keep your Himalayan kittens from running away, keep them indoors for at least 3 months. It is advised though, that you won’t let your Himalayan cats outside at all at least not without supervision. This is because they trust just about any person, also those with bad intentions.

To avoid getting your furniture scratched you might want to consider to get a scratch pole and learn your Himalayan kittens straight away that they should use that instead of your brand new couch.

If you’re Himalayan cats have an extreme flat face, their eyes will water every day. You will have to wipe their eyes to keep them happy. If your cat has a face with a longer nose, this will not be needed.

Also be sure to test your Himalayan kittens on Polycystic Kidney Disease (PYD), it’s a genetic disease that 30% suffers of.

Ohhhhh, the kittie is sooooo cute!!! If I didn't already have 3 dogs and 3 birds and a few other animals running around, I would consider a kitty. :)

Thanks for letting me learn about a new kind of cat. I know all about different dog breeds, but very little about cats since you never seem them out on walks!

Aww, it's adorable. Just remember that a pet is a big responsibility and that getting one means you need to take care of it. Obvious I know, but you'd be surprised how many people don't. Some people only buy pets, spend time with it for a few months, get bored, and then let it rot in the backyard.

I had Persians for many years and many of the characteristics you have described I could relate to. They are such a delightful breed but, as you say, they require a lot of work to maintain. This can become part of the bonding experience. I wrote about one of the cats I had and I miss him a lot (7 years later!)

I'm more of a puppy person, but I have to admit that picture is extremely adorable :)
