76Garage floors can suffer from corrosion after some time whether it’s due to the weather or high traffic, there are a few ways to avoid damage and to make your garage floor last longer without needing to repair it. I’m talking about floor coverings and coatings. In this article you will see why you should use them, what different kinds of floor coverings are out there and a few tips on applying.
Most garage floors just have a concrete floor and that’s it. If your garage is a high traffic area the floor can get damaged pretty quickly, so a defensive layer is a good way to provide protection. Putting up a protective coating on your garage work allows you to put of floor maintenance and repairs because the floor is less likely to be damaged. It does not only provide protection, garage floor coatings also provide aesthetic value. You can cover up oil stains and cracks, which makes your floor look new.
For the first month you should only clean it when it’s really necessary and then just use water, soap and a basic broom. Don’t use any power tools to clean the floor during this period as it can seriously damage it.
Now you should know exactly why you should coat your garage floors, what different coverings are out there and how to apply them. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them. I hope this article has provided you enough information to start covering up those garage floors!
If you are going to cover your garage with either a coating or tiles you must keep a few things in the back of your head.
First, you have to prepare your floor which is done by cleaning the floor and remove all the grease, oils, dust and any other matter. After thoroughly cleaning the floor you can apply the coatings. Be sure to apply it evenly so the floor will remain smooth.
Allow each layer to dry at least 4 to 6 hours before applying another layer. If you don’t allow the materials to dry, cracks can occur and that’s something you should really try to avoid. Coating should be done with a temperature of 50 to 80 degree Fahrenheit for it to stick best, when it’s raining it’s not a good idea to cover your floor because of the moisture.
There are a few different ways to cover your garage floor. The most popular choice is the use of latex and epoxy paint as they offer a great variation on different colors and texture options. This makes it suitable for just about anyone. Latex and epoxy paint protects your garage floor from grease, oil and dirt.
Tiles are a great to cover your garage floors as well. Garage tiles offer even more color options than paints and they come in a great variety of shapes and sizes. Garage floor tiles are also more durable than paint. However if your garage receives high traffic you really don’t have to invest in the best quality. The tiles will be worn down pretty fast so to save money in the long run you can go with the cheaper ones.
If you’re on a small budget and you don’t need to cover the whole floor then you can opt for using garage floor mats. These are probably the most affordable and customizable type of floor covering out there. You can purchase a floor mat for just about any size which is great to cover up specific parts of the garage.
