Finding the right outdoor lighting is not as easy as it once was. Many people are making choices based on their efforts to save the environment, and reduce their personal carbon footprints. Many other people are making choices because they simply want to save money. No matter which category you fall into, there are options that will work for your situation and your budget.

Outdoor Commercial Lighting Needs are Different than Residential Needs

Outdoor lighting for commercial properties must serve a few purposes. It must look professional; it must be cost effective; it must light large areas effectively at night; and it must intimidate criminals. Nothing is more inviting to a criminal than a poorly lit commercial property. So even if your store, shop or office is closed at night, it must be properly lit. It should also have security cameras installed and indicated with signage to deter criminals.

When you buy commercial outdoor lighting, you can usually buy in bulk and save money. Commercial lighting is also stronger and more powerful than most residential lighting, so you might need less actual units than you would need for a house or residential property.

Low Voltage Lighting Considerations

If you are trying to save pennies, you have probably been considering outdoor lighting low voltage.  Though you can do this, you want to make sure that the low voltage lighting you choose can provide your property with adequate light.  Before buying tons of units, just bring one home and test it out.  Some low voltage products are just gimmicks designed to separate you from your money -- with no attention paid to quality.

What is the Best Look for a Frequently Used Patio?

Outdoor wall lighting provides a great look for your patio, or social outdoor space.  In addition, lighting like this is elegant and out of the way.  Your kids can run around and play, without causing you concern that they will knock over a light or somehow cause a fire.  Wall lighting perfectly lights the perimeter of your property, making it look both attractive and safe.

Is Solar Lighting for You?

Solar outdoor lighting is not for everyone.  It will work well for you if you live in a warm and bright area.  The lights have to charge during the day, in order to function properly at night.  If your lights don't charge during the day, you will have no light at night.  This is not ideal.

If you live somewhere like Florida, California, Vegas or Arizona; and solar lighting will work with your natural weather conditions, then it's a great choice to make for the environment.
